Our Values

A Manifesto of Sorts (informal, but authentic):

Our central goal in the kinds of products we make, the way we make them, and the content we produce is to first and foremost honor God. Creativity is a wonderful gift, given that we might reflect His nature better by shaping beautiful, intentional things for others to enjoy. This is at the core of our values. 

Additionally, we believe that beauty is worth sharing. The Crossgrain Craft Co. brand is built around this idea: what you choose to display, carry, or wear is a medium through which truth, goodness, and beauty can be shared. A simple shirt with a verse of an old, old hymn, or an illustration sparking wonder and curiosity can both lead to good conversations. A T-shirt or hoodie can be an incredibly effective means of communication.

However, much of the T-shirt and design market is currently populated by AI-designed products. While there are still brands that hold to the value of creativity, the status quo has nevertheless been gradually eroded. Our promise: regardless of surface polish, we will always make things that are real and have a real person behind them.

By removing the person behind a design, one removes the capacity for true creative expression. Not that AI art always looks bad. Someday, it may look better than that of human designers. But an algorithm cannot be made in the image of God, and any art produced will be hollow at heart.

An AI cannot grieve the passing of a relative, and paint a picture based solely on childhood memory.

An AI cannot replace the friend who sits down after you say "I'm fine" and is brave enough to ask how you really feel.

An AI cannot love, and it cannot lose. It cannot yearn for heaven, nor for the joy of a new creation. And all the threads on the wide loom of human emotion and experience exist not to be imitated by silicon and wire, but to be handed to the Weaver who first wove words. The Word, to be exact.

This is why Crossgrain Craft Co. doesn't use AI designs. Ever. There's a person made in the image of God behind the pen, every time. That is our guarantee. (Also, drawing is the fun part lol)

One last thought: if you're tempted to doubt whether your gift is valuable, know that it is, because you yourself are valuable. Likes, productivity, and marketability are not the point.

You are in the middle of a stadium, true, but the bleachers have one Occupant. He loves you, and He made you to use your gifts. 

So... go and make beautiful things. And then give them to God, and see what He does with them. You might be surprised.
